RALEIGH — The N.C. Board of Transportation today awarded a $2.1 million contract for road improvements to Keen Road (State Route 1178) in Four Oaks in Johnston County. The contract was awarded to Barnhill Contracting Co. of Tarboro.
The N.C. Board of Transportation today awarded a $2.1 million contract for road improvements to Keen Road (State Route 1178) in Four Oaks in Johnston County. The contract was awarded to Barnhill Contracting Co. of Tarboro. Included in the project are plans to widen Keen Road to five lanes from U.S. 301 to Allendale Road (S.R. 1164), as well as install a drainage pipe on Keen Street (S.R. 1182). Work is scheduled to begin as early as Nov. 26, with final completion by Dec. 31, 2008.
One lane will be closed on Keen Road during construction. The Keen Street construction location will be closed to traffic with a signed detour route in place.
"Johnston County is a growing community, and these improvements to Keen Road will help improve traffic conditions for motorists between the downtown area of Four Oaks and I-95," said board member Tom Betts of Rocky Mount who represents Highway Division 4, which includes Johnston County.
